Vic: Burnt body found on farm is unidentifiable, police say
MELBOURNE, Dec 27 AAP - A badly burnt and bound body found today in a paddock on Melbourne'soutskirts was impossible to identify by sight, police said.
The body was found by a farmer on his property by the Melba Highway in the Yarra Valley region.
Homicide squad detectives investigating the grisly discovery at Coldstream this morningsaid the corpse had been so badly burned that the sex could not immediately be determined.
"From a visual point of view it's impossible," Detective Senior Sergeant Rowland Legg said.
"But obviously we have tests that we do and we're going through missing persons reportsat the moment to try to identify the person," he said.
A post mortem examination will be held later today to try to identify the body andhow the person was killed.
A police helicopter was called in to identify possible tyre tracks in the paddock andpolice divers searched a nearby dam.
Det. Snr Sgt Legg called for public help in identifying the corpse.
"We would hope that we would be able to identify the deceased very quickly becauseof course that assists us to trace final movements and associates," he said.
